Mother Earth

Wake up people
So that you can see
How mother earth is responding
Oh so kharmically

We treat her with disrespect
Closing our eyes and turning our backs
Thinking we have every right to do as we please
Taking no responsibility for planting negative seeds

Chaos and despair
Everything scattered everywhere
Strong winds blowing
Water surging through the air
People saying why did this happen?
Life is so unfair

Mother earth takes a breath
She sits back to see
Have these people learned anything
About how poorly they have treated me?

We go about our day
When we are not living near
Hoping we won’t be affected
Disaster areas are full of fear

Mother earth means no harm
She’s just mirroring our lack
When we show our care through action
That’s what will come flowing back

Picture is of artist Andy Yoder’s sculpture Early One Morning. It is made out of wooden matches, wood, steel, paper and foam. I saw it recently at Pulse Project (add link) art show in NYC. It’s fabulous!
