What better way to take charge of your life than by designing a customized balance between work and play. Investing in ourselves has such a high rate of return, when we put ourselves first our over all well being is contagious. No, this is not selfish – it is healthy! Everything stems from us, our business, children, relationships and lifestyle. If we are not feeling fulfilled these feelings are then transferred onto the close relationships in our lives. When we are genuinely happy this affects those close to us in a positive way. So how do you invest in yourself? Here is some information:
We all have a common thread, a root factor, that is the the secret sauce in our successes. When we use our natural and unique talents they lead us to abundance with ease and grace. Sometimes we don’t see this commonality, life gets in the way and we lose focus of our soul’s purpose. It’s hard to keep our eye on the prize when we feel like everything is falling apart, however this is actually the best time to do inner work and manifest our deepest desires. It only FEELS as though everything is falling apart, reality is that we are being asked to listen, to wake up, and to take action. If we ignore these signs they only grow, chaos increases, whispers become loud noises. When you feel the spark ignite within pay attention! This internal fire is our passion speaking loud and clear, when we are connected to our passion we begin living and working with purpose. We excel naturally and life becomes less complicated.
It is easy to get caught up in the illusion of material success, our conditioning has taught us to work hard, to acquire money and prestige, and to live by the old saying “nothing comes easy”. This is simply not true, many things happen easily when we are aligned with passion, when we allow our hearts to lead. When we set our intention and follow our hearts, instead of our minds, we naturally gravitate towards what we are good at. We don’t have to work so hard, life can be easier when we utilize our natural gifts. Therefore, we end up having more time to nurture ourselves and those we love, relationships blossom. When we swim up stream, against our intuition, we end up over exerting ourselves just to keep up, our external world becomes full of drama and chaos. We burn out, become resentful, and often wonder what we are doing it all for in the end because we aren’t happy.
Success is a funny word, it is so misinterpreted within society today. Many people associate money with success, they end up seeking only what is in their outer world, neglecting what they internally desire. When monetary success is achieved without equal focus on your internal world, we are left feeling empty. A cycle begins, we strive to fill this void by acquiring more and we become co-dependent on the outer world to provide us with a quick fix of happiness through acquisition of material goods. Don’t get me wrong, having money to enjoy the finer things in life is wonderful, I also enjoy giving money away to those in need. However, when we realize the deeper meaning of abundance we are able to enjoy the balance between both worlds creating authentic internal joy.
When we take the leap of faith and invest in ourselves, life organically becomes more fluid, more natural feeling, more balanced. Reflect back, try to identify the commonality that holds your projects together. For me it is design, whether it be fashion, interior design, business design, etc. My gift for design is ever present, it is my burning fire when I feel connected to a project. Designing is the eternal puzzle to me, I am always building to create balance in many different forms. When I was younger this talent manifested mostly in Interior Design, I kind of pigeon holed myself because I didn’t realize then how trans-lateral design can be. It doesn’t have to be singular, it can be multi-faceted just as life is. Through this process of applying design in many different applications I have become multi-dimensional through layering what I learn from each job. I make it a point not to get caught up in labels or titles when I select a project, I focus on the wisdom to be gained. Staying humble and allowing ourselves to serve others, as we are being mentored, opens us up to our full potential.
I didn’t just discover this Design connection one day, I was forced into having to re-build my career. I was burned + burned out by Interior Design, a block was created so that I would have to seek out other ways to grow in business. I was terrified, I didn’t feel like I knew how to do anything else. What’s a girl to do in the midst of a crisis? Re-design my life? Yup, that’s what I decided to do, what I didn’t realize until much later was that this process would show me how my gift of design could be applied to almost anything. I began consulting on business development and design, this led me into designing strategies for investing money, soon to follow was branding design and then my blog, poetry and the flood gates just burst open. Many people ask what I do and I don’t have an answer for them, I always have my hands in many different pots and I no longer feel the need to define myself. Yes, the common link for me is design, however I’m going to keep on exploring new ways in which I can use this talent to grow my knowledge.
When we understand our gifts and utilize them we are guaranteed success, whether it be monetary or personal fulfillment. You’re guaranteed abundance. Explore what your contributions to the world have in common and utilize this force. Then dedicate your extra time to yourself, invest in yourself. Here are a few tips: After you have discovered your common thread, think of ways to best utilize your gift without any focus on money. Share your ideas with friends, see if they can help or if they can connect you with someone who can. Look for a mentor, even if you feel the position may be a step down, remember you will be gaining knowledge to push you forward. Save money to invest in yourself or look for an angel investor. Align yourself with a community or group of like-minded people who trade services, you will be surprised what you can get for free (bartering is tried and true)! Visualize your success, feel your excitement as you see your dreams coming to fruition. Don’t let fear and external negativity get you down, acknowledge your feelings and move on. The best ideas are the craziest – trust me I am always being criticized for my ideas and then they are copied over and over… My life story. I have learned to immediately release the negative comments, they are just projections of other peoples insecurities and lack of taking action. Always listen to your gut, intuition never lies. Times may be tough but focus on your end goal, not the immediate crisis which is actually just a learning experience to help you grow. Get a coach if you need a guide, asking for help is the best thing to do. Stay humble. Stay honest. Always act with integrity. Good luck my friends and please keep me posted on your progress.
